How AdSense Actually Pays You: Every Threshold, the PIN, and the Payment Date

AdSense doesn't pay you when you hit one number. It puts four separate gates between your first cent and money arriving in your bank account, and two of them will stop your ads entirely if you miss a deadline.

Most publishers meet these gates one surprise at a time. Here is the whole sequence up front, with Google's own figures.

The Thresholds, in Order

All amounts are USD; Google publishes equivalents for other reporting currencies.

The order matters. At $10 two things happen at once: you pick a payment method, and Google requires you to verify identity and address. At $100, and not before, you get paid.

The PIN: A Real Letter, in Real Post

When earnings reach the verification threshold, Google mails a 6-digit PIN to your payment address. Not an email. A physical letter.

The numbers that matter:

• It usually takes 3 weeks to arrive. If it hasn't after that, request a replacement.
• You have 4 months from the date the PIN is generated to complete address verification.
• Miss that window and Google will "stop showing ads on your pages."
• Enter it wrong three times and your account stops showing ads.
• After a 4th replacement PIN still hasn't arrived, use Google's PIN troubleshooter.

Getting the address right

The PIN goes to the address in your AdSense payment profile, exactly as typed. It is an automated mailing, so a postal worker's judgement is the only thing between a slightly wrong address and a lost letter.

Before you cross $10, check:

• The address matches how post is actually addressed in your country, not a US-style format forced into the fields
• Your name matches what's on the mailbox or with the building's post handling
• Apartment, floor, or unit numbers are present
• The postal code is correct

Fix the address before the PIN is generated. Changing it afterwards means requesting a replacement and restarting delivery.

When Money Actually Arrives

Google's stated schedule: if your balance reaches the payment threshold by the end of the month, and there are no other holds, "you'll be issued a payment between the 21st and the 26th of the month."

So the rhythm is:

1. Earnings accumulate through the month.
2. At month end, Google checks whether you've crossed $100.
3. If yes, payment is issued between the 21st and 26th of the following month.
4. Bank transfer time is on top of that.

This means your December earnings are not December money. Realistically you're looking at late January before funds land, and longer if your bank is slow with international transfers.

You Can Raise the Threshold, but Not Lower It

$100 is the minimum. Google lets you set a higher payment threshold if you'd rather accumulate and be paid less often — useful if your bank charges per incoming international transfer, where several small payments cost more in fees than one larger one.

You cannot set it below $100.

If You Close Your Account

If you cancel with a balance above $10, Google issues a final payment in roughly 90 days. Below that, the balance isn't paid out. Worth knowing before abandoning an account with $40 sitting in it — earning the remaining $60 is often worth more than walking away.

The Sequence That Avoids Every Surprise

1. At signup: enter your address in your country's normal postal format, carefully.
2. Immediately: complete tax information. Some countries require it from $0, and missing tax info is a common payment hold.
3. At $10: select your payment method and complete identity verification.
4. When the PIN arrives (~3 weeks): enter it straight away. You have three attempts and four months.
5. If it doesn't arrive in 3 weeks: request a replacement immediately, not next month.
6. At $100: payment issues between the 21st and 26th of the following month.
